About

I have always struggled with this part. I can recall those early days on the blogosphere when I would start my introduction with something like “Hi, my name is Imran, I am 19 and I come from a beautiful valley called Hunza in the north-most region of Pakistan…” but things have changed ever since.

The struggle has always been there; to be different and same at the same time. Perhaps self-expression can be one of the most complicated things ever — my several attempts to bring out what’s cooking inside my very own head has always fallen short of the proper talent. And so, I had to choose not one but many ways of expression in a little contest with own-self to get understood.

Formality

My name is Imran Ahmed. I call myself Imran Ahmed Hunzai or simply Imran Hunzai. The last name comes from my father side, he has it officially on his national identity card. Back in the days when I was born, Imran Khan was having his career best time in cricket; 2 years later he won the World Cup for Pakistan. I could have easily been named Wasim Ahmed but I respect the choice made by the nurse at the hospital of my birth.

I was born and raised in Hunza. As a kid growing up in the floppy disk era, I had developed a deep interest in sticking around computers. From fixing broken computers of the neighbors to co-founding a small digital agency, it has been a long and ADVENTUROUS ride. As much as I love getting close to the mother nature, the passion for ‘the digital’ remains equally important in my life.

Currently, I work as a Chief Digital Officer at Centangle, a small interactive agency that I co-founded along with a few university classmates. Apart from this 9-5 commitment, I am the co-founder of Organization for Educational Change, a youth-led initiative working in Gilgit-Baltistan on a number of education-related projects. I am also the guy behind Humans of Hunza. You can know more about my profession related work here.

I spend rest of my time doing photography, traveling and playing Rabab.

The struggle is still there, it always will be.

  1. Northern areas (Gilgit-Baltistan) is rich with talented and genious people, it can be seen by the records of our students, who are doing their efforts from youth to the senior citizens.
    Dear imran you are among the good students of Gilgit balitistan who can be a part of revolution through their power of pen, so keep it up;
    wish you all the best.

  4. Reading these kind of posts reminds me of just how technology truly is ever-permeating in this day and age, and I am fairly certain that we have passed the point of no return in our relationship with technology.

    I don’t mean this in a bad way, of course! Societal concerns aside… I just hope that as memory gets cheaper, the possibility of transferring our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It’s one of the things I really wish I could encounter in my lifetime.
